PARKSIDE PROJECT
Following the designation as an Urban Priority Area (UPA) in 1995, St Paul's responded by creating a Community Development Project.
The project, now in its 10th year, aims to join with local residents of the area to make it a better place in which to live, and to foster a sense of worth and belonging in all.
Carol Dale is our project worker; she has taken up the job in March 2009.
The project is supported by a number of volunteers and the management committee. Sponsored by several charities, the activities of the project include parenting courses, creative workshops, the Friday Club for over 50s, Bingo, support of St Paul's Youth Club, the Summer Club and a local Befriending scheme for lonely isolated older people.
The project was also instrumental in starting a Lunch Club and a Community Cafe and has supported Albemarle Primary School in setting up various activities. A Community Arts Week, Finding Our Common Ground, provided an arena for inter-generational communication and the creation of a local history map.
The project has also arranged a number of all-age summer fun trips and short holidays for senior citizens and has been a focal point for local activities (such as the Golden Jubilee Celebrations, BBQs etc).
The Annual Report for 2008 - 2009 is available here.
